Zirconium oxide or zirconia (chemical formula ZrO2) is an extremely hard ceramic with a degree of hardness greater than 9 Mohs which makes it an excellent material in applications where great wear resistance is required, at high temperatures even for long periods and in the presence of strong mechanical stresses and in complex environments.
It is widely used in the industrial field due to its resistance to attack by molten metals, organic solvents, acids and alkalis.
Zirconia main applications:
+ Containers for the transport of volatile chemical solutions
+ Components of jet and diesel engines
+ Containers for molten metals (crucibles)
+ High speed cutting tools
+ High wear components
+ Transistor insulators
+ Balls and bearings
+ Corrosion resistant material
+ Sealing rings for pumps and ball valves
+ Biomedical applications
